And what can I do in a week or so now I know that?

@Qfwfq(?)
You can download it and try it, and hopefully report bugs. More on this when I do release it.

Hot digity dang!
The anticipation is getting to near critical levels.

@2 admin. Just kidding about the urge for V2.
I’ll be pleased to test it in non-english windows XP.
Remember I oferred to translate manuals into Spanish BTW

Yah! Bring it on! I have a bunch of plans I’ve been waiting to create so I could try out v2.
QUESTION: Are plans backward compatible with v1.6?
admin | 18-Nov-08 at 9:32 pm | Permalink
@Gary
No, V2 plan documents are not readable by V1. However, the various Export/Import features should make them backwards compatible with a bit of work.

@Qfwfq
I’ll be looking at internationalising V3 (assuming more than a handful of folks upgrade to V2, otherwise I’m retiring). Spanish will be one of the languages I’ll be considering.

I’ll be upgrading just as soon as I can… and I’m sure there will be more than a handful doing so!

…not that I’ll be needing anything other than an English version! 😉

When using the field of view script that you made with version 2, would it be possible to show all of the stars, and their names, that appear in the field of view of the selected object

@John,
I’m not quite with you here. You mean like you can do in V1 via Object->Get FOV Objects… ?
John McDonnell | 07-Dec-08 at 7:14 pm | Permalink
What I meant to say was that when we print the field of view using either the field of view script or from the field of view tab have the objects that are in the field of view labeled on the print out. I now realize that Astroplanner does this when we print the field of view tab.

Have you decided on a set of products and prices yet? There was originally talk of a couple different levels. I for one am anxious to give you some money 🙂
admin | 12-Dec-08 at 1:46 pm | Permalink
@Gary
I for one am getting fairly desperate to accept money :^)
For V2 it will still be the same as before with a shareware version with limited catalogues and some restrictions, and a registered version with nothing restricted. For V3, I might have some special features to squeeze more money out of the enthusiasts.

Hi Paul, I am a registered user of v1.6.1. IceInSpace forum had a thread on AstroPlanner, and mentioned that you had a v2 beta on the way.
I have read to this point and would be very keen to get my hands on a copy of the beta. I am also very keen to throw money at you 🙂
Your Beta page notes that beta users should be be relatively experienced astro users (I am not, though my interest goes back many years) or experienced software testers (I have written a reasonable amount of code in REALbasic, and read (and post occasionally to) the RB NUG as tonybarry).
If you have the opportunity to flick a copy of the beta this way, I’d be very pleased.
Regards,
Tony Barry

@Tony
I have resent your registration info, which includes your V2 licence number info. Download the latest beta from the beta page, toss it in your Applications folder (Mac) or run the installer (Windows), and you are away.

Hi Paul.
I was using V1.6 on my Net-book last night, and wondered if I would still be able to run version 2 on it. (screen res, ROM etc) There is a proliferation of these small computers in astronomy circles down here in Oz. They are very handy to cart outside and to drive scopes. So just thought I’d drop you a line in case they have fallen under the radar.

@Greg
A lot of folk seem to be buying these el-cheapo netbook things. Unfortunately (and I was investigating this yesterday) it looks like I can’t reduce the vertical height restriction for open plan documents without serious re-design and re-engineering.
I’m wondering if there isn’t a third-party solution to create a larger virtual desktop. I’ll post on the Yahoo group.

Hi Paul,
Did you have any success with finding out if there was any solution for using netbooks?
I’ve been thinking of going that way myself.
admin | 19-Aug-09 at 8:26 am | Permalink
@Nick
Yes, V2 should work on Netbooks with a minimum screen size of 1024×600. Of course, the experience will be less than optimal, but all windows and dialogs are now adjusted where necessary to fit on such a screen.
